The 39th annual Erskine Open golf tournament, scheduled to complement Alumni Weekend activities, drew about 80 players to Hunter’s Creek Golf and Country Club in Greenwood Friday, April 26.

The event is a fund-raiser to defray costs of the Erskine Athletic Hall of Fame banquet, a celebration held every other year at homecoming.

Winning first place this year were Ranny Rankin, Alex Rankin, David Castles, and Sarah Hurt with a score of 57, 15 under par. They received the Vardon Trophy 2013 (donated by Men’s Tennis Coach Vardon Cox ’64) as well as $100 gift certificates to the Hunter’s Creek Golf Shop.

Second place winners, with a score of 58, 14 under par, were Mark Peeler, Jason Allen, Gid Alston, and Patrick Davenport ’90. They received $50 gift certificates to Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Several contests of skill were conducted, with Christian Habeger, who serves as controller at Erskine, hitting the longest drive. Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach Jason Allen led the closest-to-pin competition, and Don Whitehead ’67 won this year’s putting contest.
