us_constitution_01_smallErskine College will welcome SC Rep. James Smith Thursday, Sept. 17, as speaker for a Constitution Day convocation at 11 a.m. in Memorial Hall.

Grady Patterson Professor of Politics Dr. Ashley Woodiwiss said Smith, a recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart, will offer his thoughts on the Constitution of the United States “in light of his career as a state legislator who was deployed to Afghanistan while in office.”

All institutions of higher education receiving federal funds must provide educational programming celebrating the history, meaning, and importance of the United States Constitution on or near Sept. 17, the day the Constitution was signed in Philadelphia in 1787.

There will be a question-and-answer session following Smith’s address.
