The Student Christian Association (SCA) and the leadership honor society Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) offered an opportunity for community service at a Habitat for Humanity building project in Anderson Nov. 19-21.

SCA and ODK conducted signups Nov. 9-10 for the event, which assisted a widow, Tyeisha Wright-Charlot, and her daughter.

Wright-Charlot moved with her husband and daughter to South Carolina from California several years ago in order to be closer to their extended family, selling what they owned in preparation for the move. Just when they were getting back on their feet, Wright-Charlot’s husband died unexpectedly.

She applied for a Habitat house in 2014, and hopes to offer a home to foster children as well as her own daughter.

Erskine students, faculty, and staff worked Thursday and Friday afternoon as well as Saturday morning, helping to build that home.

“I have a great spirit of gratitude for my blessings and am grateful for the opportunity to have a Habitat home built for me,” Wright-Charlot said. “I finally feel we have a place we can call her own.”
